      reflects clearly, all OH&S issues in the
      Organisation where it applies, & is often
      enshrined in a Company OH&S Plan.
    • Relevant Training ensures management, employees, contractors, & visitors are fully aware of their rights/ obligations wrt OH&S – may be generic, risk-specific, &/or task-specific.
3
SCOPE

  • The full details of OH&S may be found in the MAUS OH&S Training Module.
  • The MAUS OH&S Training Module itself is provided to employees, clients, contractors, & customers of MAUS, including Projects & Departments located remotely.

OH&S MANAGEMENT – A NECESSITY

  • Workplace Safety is of critical importance in achieving success when managing any business or organisation.
  • If you are the director or business owner, you have rights & obligations in reference to health & safety in your workplace.
  • You must ensure your business doesn’t create health & safety problems for your staff, customers, & the general public.
  • Knowing & understanding OH&S Laws will help you avoid unnecessary costs & damage to your business caused by workplace injury & illness.

  • Abiding by a fully-compliant, effective, & Certified OH&S Management System (OH&SMS);
  • Managing & controlling Risk in the workplace
    & at work sites;

    eliminating Risks, & in being informed of OH&S;

OH&S – WHAT OF THE FUTURE?

    • Moving upstream from “Correction” to “Prevention”;
    • Emphasis on the business case for good OH&S practices, implemented at start-up;
    • Greater consideration & investigations carried out on Nanotechnology & its effects on OH&S;
    • Global economic dynamics related to OH&S; &
    • Ethics & Governance will gain greater prominence.

10
CONCLUSION
  • A commitment to OH&S ensures an Organisation can provide its employees a safer work environment.
  • It is not just compliance with Legislation, Regulations, &/or Standards, but rather one of culture & abiding with pre-set rules.
  • This includes mutual respect, teamwork, & cooperation shown among all staff – no gossip, attacks, jealousies, or abuse.
  • To successfully implement the “Culture of Safety” requires full cooperation & a firm commitment from all staff in all they do.
  • To achieve this, more widespread Training should be provided.

11
CONCLUSION  (CONT.)

  • Once success is achieved, the rest is easier; everyone “pushes” himself/herself, with a view to meet requirements.
  • All new products & process will firstly be “Risk-assessed”.
  • This is followed by processes performed automatically, with correct OH&S factors addressed in all activities done.
